And then there's the dreaded CARBON FOOTPRINT. Besides, we'd much rather patronize local businesses that are often owned or run by people we know and whose profits tend to stay in the community.
So what about the flowers you buy? Did you know that the average cut flower travels more than 1,500 miles to your grocery store or florist down the street? Well, the flowers you get from Filigreen are anything but "average."
We search for flowers grown as sustainably and as close as possible to our location in the North End. In fact, during the growing season we are able to shrink that travel distance from 1,500 miles to...oh, about 3 miles. That's because we have carefully cultivated relationships with local growers, some of whom are growing cut flowers for the first time. Growing flowers is good for them, because it adds another revenue stream to their fruit and vegetable sales. Of course, it's hard to grow daisies in a Boise winter so when locally grown flowers aren't available, we do our best to select flowers that are certified as being VeriFlora sustainably grown. This is your guarantee that the flowers we use are grown in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, with high quality standards. (Filigreen is currently in the process of becoming the first VeriFlora Preferred Retailer in Idaho.)

Local Wedding FlowersFiligreen attends to the couple who is consciously planning a simple, meaningful wedding and is committed to using local products.
From May to September, we work exclusively with local growers. We know what flowers are available when, what works well together, and what will hold up.
We also know that Mother Nature isn't as predictable as a climate-controlled greenhouse. So it's essential that you be flexible, and willing to plan around a color range, not a color swatch.
